Contraceptive Accelerator Network’s mission is to achieve reproductive autonomy for all by accelerating contraceptive research and development.
CAN works with its parent non-profit Male Contraceptive Initiative to identify the most salient investment options to accelerate the development of new sperm-targeting contraceptives in an effort to facilitate their market-readiness.
Projects stewarded by CAN are given individualized attention, and progressed in a way that de-risks future studies, incentivizes follow-on investment, and advances the program into clinical trials.
MCI’s Lemonade Stand: “Triptonide as a Non-hormonal Male Contraceptive”
Triptonide
Triptonide is a natural compound that has displayed reversible male contraceptive effects in both mice and monkeys.
A single daily oral dose has shown to induce deformed sperm with minimal or no forward motility and, consequently, contraceptive effects in males. This effect has also been shown to wear off in a matter of weeks after animal models ceased consuming the compound.
This indicates that there is significant potential for Triptonide to be a natural, reversible, non-hormonal contraceptive targeting sperm.
